The Shrine of Ascension, tended to by Amara, is where the player can swap forms, skins, genitals or other cosmetics as well as learn/equip new sorceries
Forms cost essence to unlock whereas sorceries require sorcery points.
Essence can be obtained from a number of locations, the most notable of these being Kethra's Gift.
In order to unlock the Shrine of Ascension you need to complete the quest Masquerade, to unlock sorceries you need to complete the quest A Call to Adventure.
After completing Gathering Power the player will have begun the task of empowering the Shrine of Ascension. You will notice the pillars become infused with Essence.
