The Book of Gifts
By the hand of one who hath witnessed Her glory
Chapter 1.
The Gift of Grace
In the days of old, when men were as dust and life yielded naught but suffering, The Goddess Kethra came down unto us from the heavens, bearing gifts untold, and myriad wonders beyond the reckoning of mere mortals. Hers was the hand which lifted us from despair. Hers was the sacred chalice from which poured forth Her abundant love and mercy. It is She who delivered us from our wantonness and made us whole. For who amongst the children of dust could have foreseen the greatness which She would bestow?
I, who write these words, have seen with mine own eyes the splendour of Her works, the beauty of Her divine mercy, and the abundant blessings She hath given. I am but one amongst many who bear witness to the fullness of Her magnanimity and the endless splendour of Her love.
For Kethra, in Her wisdom, gave unto Her chosen people that which we had never been given before–a place at the feet of a benevolent Goddess.
Chapter 2.
The Gift of Plenty
When Kethra first descended upon us, we knew only pain, hunger, and suffering. The fields were barren and the cattle bore only fruit which quickly died. But lo, by Her command did She bring forth abundance. The Euphoris flowed mightily and gentle rains poured from supple clouds. The trees blossomed in every season, and the beasts multiplied. There was no more lacking amongst us. By Her divine will, hunger was brought low and no longer did we feel the pang of starvation.
She gave us renewed, everlasting life, all of it meant for eternity, for in Her presence, sickness was driven away and the weak were made strong. Truly, even the blind were made to see, and the lame were made to walk, and run, and climb as an aadi might the mountains. How then could we not sing Her praise? How could we, who were the children of dust, not give thanks for Her infinite grace?
And in Her wisdom, She did not withhold from us anything, but gave freely unto all who came before Her that which was necessary. From the smallest of children to the eldest of our people, all were made to know Her favour.
Chapter 3.
The Gift of Unity
Not all of Kethra's works were a blessed gift of the material which stayed our hunger and our lust. No, I write as a witness to the unification of the children of sand. No longer would we war with one another. No longer would brother slaughter brother. We were a people lost until She came to us.
It was Her guiding light, which drew us to Her bosom, Her ineffable wisdom which made our minds clear, and Her many bounties which took the fight away from us. There was no need for war, for dedication to the tribes no longer mattered. We were no longer our own, but instead, as we bowed low in Her presence, we became Hers.
Truly, a nation which wants for nothing, has no reason to quarrel within itself.
Chapter 4.
The Gift of Ascension
I write these words now as I have borne witness to the gift of ascension, given only to those found worthy in Her infallible judgement. For in Her boundless mercy, Kethra did not wish merely to elevate our lives upon the earth, but to draw us closer to Her own divinity, and the divinity of Her children. She called forth the chosen amongst us, the most faithful, the most devout, and unto them did She bestow many forms of the divine.
Behold, the gift of ascension, wherein flesh is transformed and the spirit is made one with the eternal nature of The Goddess. Some were made to bear the likeness of the desert mau, swift and graceful, their eyes gleaming with a predator's cunning. Others were given the strength and might of the subaq, sinew and scales sculpted upon them as only a divine artist could, their skin impenetrable and their gaze as steady as the flowing river.
Those who receive this gift were no longer as men, no longer a child of dust, but as gods walking amongst us, their forms noble and fearsome, and their essence imbued with that of Kethra. We, who beheld them, fell to our knees, for they were as the living embodiments of Her glory, the extension of Her will, and none could stand before them without trembling in awe.
And they, the ascended ones, did serve Her and Her children in all things, carrying out Her commands with swift and righteous judgement, for they were filled with Her purpose. Their forms were not a curse, but a blessing, the highest honour bestowed upon mortals, and we worshipped them as idols, representatives of Kethra's presence.
Chapter 5.
The Gift of Obedience
O, how great is the gift of obedience, which She hath given unto us! For in Her wisdom, Kethra knoweth that the heart of man is wayward and frail, prone to stray from the path of righteousness. Yet in Her mercy, She hath established Her law amongst us, that we might be kept from our old ways.
Blessed are they who obey Her, for they shall know Her favour and live in peace all of their days. But woe unto the rebellious, for Her wrath is swift and terrible, and Her justice is without flaw. We have seen, and we have known the fire of Her mercy made manifest.
Let none question Her, for She knows our nature better than we, and Her knowledge is beyond our understanding. I, who once trembled at Her power, know that all She does is for the good of men, and in following Her will is found true peace.
